Freedom Trail Walking Tour
Less than one mile from the Holiday Inn Boston, step back in time and take a journey to discover the people, places and events that played a significant role in the founding of the United States as a free and independent nation. Start at the beginning of the 2.5-mile Boston Freedom Trail Walking Tour at the visitor information center located in Boston Common. Here, you will find maps and brochures to accompany your self-guided walk or you may opt to pay and join a guided tour. Several of the 16 historical places in Boston on the Freedom Trail include:

  • Boston Common - beginning of the Freedom Trail Boston, MA and site of the British encampment from 1775 to 1776.
  • King’s Chapel and Burying Ground –King’s Chapel Boston Massachusetts is a granite building constructed in 1754; its pulpit, built in 1717, is one of the oldest in the nation. The nearby burying ground is the oldest in the city and was the only one in Boston for 30 years.
  • Old State House – this is the former seat of the British Colonial government until the end of the American Revolution in 1776. The square in front is the site of the Boston Massacre, also a stop on the trail.
  • USS Constitution – After crossing the Charlestown Bridge, visitors are led to one of the country’s first shipyards. The USS Constitution, moored in this shipyard, was built in 1797 and is known as the oldest warship of the U.S. Navy.
  • Bunker Hill National Monument – The last location on the Freedom Trail; this monument commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill, which took place between British and colonial troops on June 17, 1775.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site
Located less then four miles from our Boston lodging, the John F. Kennedy NHS, built in 1909, is the birthplace of the 35th president of the United States. Before the house was opened to the public in 1967 as a Boston historical museum, his mother took time to restore the home to the way it looked when the Kennedys were residents of the home. Join a half-hour ranger-led tour or visit between the hours of 3:30 and 4:30 for a self-guided visit to the former home and birthplace of John F. Kennedy.
